We are proud to introduce the Michael Dower Award for Rural Resilience, established in memory of Michael Dower, a passionate advocate for rural Europe and a founding figure of PREPARE (Partnership for Rural Europe). Michael’s lifelong commitment to rural development, social cohesion, and sustainability has left a lasting impact on communities across Europe, and this award seeks to honor individuals and communities who carry forward his mission.

About Michael Dower
Michael Dower (1937–2022) played a key role in shaping rural development across Europe. His career included leadership roles such as the manager of the Peak District National Park, Director General of the Countryside Commission, and a professor at the University of Gloucestershire. Throughout his work, Michael was a champion for democracy, solidarity, and peace—values that continue to guide the efforts of PREPARE.
